ARTIST PROFILE:
Betty lived at Tecoma in the Blue Dandenongs, beneath the giant mountain ash gums, beautiful tree ferns and surrounds resulting in their magnificent qualities being firmly embedded in her mind.
She is happiest when painting the natural environment endeavoring to capture the atmosphere and light of the countryside, rivers and sea.
Since childhood painting has held an attraction for her.
For a short time in 1975 she joined Martin Hart’s hobby painting class; but having three sons and a daughter, all either approaching or in their ‘teens’, plus working at a local Secondary School, life proved to be rather hectic. Consequently, painting was put on hold for some years.
In April 1984 she joined Sherbrooke Art Society, which marked the beginning of a great association and plenty of involvement but not much painting for another five years.
Attending many demonstrations, and with guidance and direction from both Walter Magilton and Stuart Benson she experienced the use of various mediums i.e. oil, pastel, acrylic and gouache.
She has received Highly Commended Awards and her paintings have found their way to New Zealand, Germany, Holland, England and Japan.
Betty has held office on the Executive Committee at Sherbrooke and has also been an active member on Council at A.G.R.A.
